BAF Observes Former Air Chief Air Vice Marshal Bashar’s Death Anniversary

Dhaka, 01 September: Bangladesh Air Force observed 41th death anniversary of former Chief of Air Staff Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Khademul Bashar, Bir Uttam on 01-9-2017 with due solemnity. Air Vice Marshal Bashar possesses the dignity for commanding the 6th sector during liberation war of Bangladesh. Bangladesh Air Force remembers this freedom fighter for his glorious contribution in achieving independence and building of Bangladesah Air Force with due respect and honour. This brave pilot was martyred on 01 September 1976 in a tragic plane accident. Mentionable that, Squadron Leader Mofijul Haque was also martyred in the same plane accident.

On this occasion milad mahfil was arranged at the central mosques of BAF Base Bashar and BAF Base Bangabandhu. A special munajat was also offered seeking divine blessings for salvation of the departed souls and for the continued peace and prosperity of the country. Senior BAF officers, Airmen and civilians were present in the milad mahfil.

 

BAF Air Defence Exercise “Adex 2017” Held

Dhaka, 23 August: Air Defence Exercise “ADEX 2017” of Bangladesh Air Force was held in Dhaka, Chittagong, Jessore, Tangail and Bogra on 23-08-2017. The aim of this exercise is to assess and evaluate the efficiency and capability of BAF Air Defence and identify the weaknesses and draw lessons for further improvement in air defence system. The exercise will help to identify the limitation and draw appropriate lessons for improvement in future. Mentionable that participation of all manpower and material of BAF in the exercise will be more effective in strenghening air defence capability of Bangladesh. As a part of the exercise, the pilots of BAF practised different air combat maneuvers and tactics including attak and interception by the fighter aircraft, surveillance from the air to the enemy attacking area, protecting Air Bases, transporting weapons and special operations. All types of BAF fighter aircraft, radar squadrons and air defence missile units are participating in the exercise.

 

BAF Observes Birsreshto Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman’s Death Anniversary

Dhaka, 20 August: Bangladesh Air Force observed the 46th death anniversary of Shaheed Birsreshto Flight Lieutenant M Matiur Rahman on 20-8-2017 with due solemnity. On this occasion, milad mahfil was arranged at the mosques of all BAF Bases and units. Special munajat was also offered seeking divine blessings of the departed soul of the deceased and for the continued peace and prosperity of the country. His noble heroic sacrifice in 1971 War of Liberation was remembered with high esteem. In the milad mahfil, officers and members of all ranks of the BAF were present. Earlier, in the morning, Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Admin) Air Vice Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat, BBP, OSP, ndu, psc and Air Officer Commanding of Bangladesh Air Force Base Bangabandhu Air Commodore M Mafidur Rahman, BUP, ndu, afwc, psc offered munajat for the salvation of the departed soul of Shaheed Flight Lieutenant M Matiur Rahman at the Martyred Intellectuals’ Graveyard at Mirpur and commemorated his contribution with great solemnity. Among others Milee Rahman, wife of Birsreshto Flight Lieutenant M Matiur Rahman, Senior Officers and Airmen of Air Headquarters and BAF Bases at Dhaka area were present on the occasion. Besides, on the occasion different programs were arranged at different schools and colleges of Bangladesh Air Force where life time achievement of Birsreshto Flight Lieutenant M Matiur Rahman was highlighted and special munajat was offered for the salvation of his departed soul.

 

National Defence College Team of India Called On Bangladesh Air Force Chief

Dhaka, 08 August: 35 members National Defence College delegation team of India led by Maj Gen M Vinaya Chandran Nair called on Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar, BBP, ndc, acsc at Air Headquarters on 28-08-2017. They exchanged greetings and discussed different issues related to bi-lateral interests during the meeting. It is expected that the visit of the National Defence College (NDC) team of India will play an important role for strengthening the existing friendly relationship between Bangladesh and India.

 

Inter-Base Squash Competition of Bangladesh Air Force Concludes

Dhaka, 08 August: Inter-Base Squash Competition of Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) concluded at Bangladesh Air Force Base Bangabandhu on 08-08-2017. In the competition, Bangladesh Air Force Base Zahurul Haque team clinched the title by defeating Air Headquarters Unit by 3-1 sets. Flight Lieutenant Syed Mehedi Hasan of Bangladesh Air Force Base Zahurul Haque team was adjudged best player in the competition.

Air Officer Commanding of Bangladesh Air Force Base Bangabandhu, Air Commodore M Mafidur Rahman, BUP, ndu, afwc, psc witnessed the final match as Chief Guest and distributed prizes among the winners. Mentionable that, 06 teams of Bangladesh Air Force participated in this 03 days long competition. Among others Senior BAF Officers, Airmen and other members from Air Headquarters and BAF Bases were present on the occasion.

Air Force Chief returns from UK

Dhaka, 20 July: Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar, BBP, ndc, acsc returned home from UK on 20 Jul 2017 after an official visit. During the visit, Chief of Air Staff attended in “Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT)-2017 Ó and “Air Power Conference” held in UK. Air Chiefs of different countries took part in that conference. The Chief of Air Staff also exchanged views with military and civil high officials on professional matters during stay in UK. It is expected that this visit will play an important role for strengthening the existing relationship between Armed Forces of Bangladesh and UK.

Harris, Junior, Commander of United States Pacific Command (USPACOM) called on Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar, BBP, ndc, acsc at Air Headquarters on 9-7-2017. They exchanged greetings and discussed different issues related to bi-lateral interests during the meeting. Bangladesh Air Force Chief Departed for UK

Dhaka, 11 July: Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar, BBP, ndc, acsc departed Dhaka for UK on a five-day long official visit on 11-07-2017.

During visit, Chief of Air Staff was attend “Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT)-2017 Ó in UK. He also took part in “Air Power Conference” with the participation of Air Chiefs of different countries. During stay in UK, Chief of Air Staff discussed professional matters with military and civil high officials. Dhaka, 25 June: Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar, BBP, ndc, acsc returned to Dhaka on 25-06-2017 after visiting France under the invitation of Air Chief of France Air Chief Marshal Andre Lanata. During his visit, Chief of Air Staff attended “The 52nd International Paris Air Show” held in France. He also visited pavilions of different aircraft manufacturing companies and their activities and discussed professional matters with their representatives. Besides, Chief of Air Staff called on Air Chief of France and exchanged views on bilateral issues. It is expected that this visit will play an important role for strengthening the existing relationship between Armed Forces of Bangladesh and France.

Bangladesh Air Force Chief called on Italian Air Chief

Dhaka, 16 June: Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar, BBP, ndc, acsc along with BAF deligation team has visited Italian Air Force Headquarters on 16-05-2017 under the invitation of Italian Air Force Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Enzo VECCIARELLI. During call on with Italian Air Force Chief of Staff, he has exchanged views on bilateral issues. Besides, deligation team has visited various installations of Italian Air Force including Flying Training Wing and Radar Repair Unit. They will also visit several facilities and factory sites of one of BAF’s helicopter provider companies named Leonardo in Italy. Italian Air Force has been very cordial with the BAF deligation team. It is expected that this visit of Chief of Air Staff will play an important role for strengthening the existing relationship between Armed Forces of Bangladesh and Italy.

 

Contract signing ceremony of MI-171SH helicopter between Bangladesh Air Force and Russia held

Dhaka, 12 June: The contract signing ceremony for procurement of 05xMi-171Sh military transport helicopters between Bangladesh Air force and Russia held at Air Headquarters on 12 June 2017. Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar, BBP, ndc, acsc was present in the ceremony. Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Operation & Training) Air Vice Marshal M Naim Hassan, BBP, OSP, afwc, psc and Ageev Dmitry, Deputy Chief of Section, Joint Stock Company “Rosoboronexport” signed the contract On behalf of Bangladesh and the Government of the Russian Federation respectively. The present government has taken various steps to modernize Bangladesh Air Force (BAF). In this development process, government has taken steps to induct Mi-171Sh helicopter made by Russia in BAF. The said Helicopters will be used in UN Peacekeeping operations. Among others PSO Armed Forces Division, PSOs of Air Headquarters, Senior BAF officers and representatives from Russian Embassy in Bangladesh were present on the occasion.

 

BAF tree plantation programme Inaugurated

Dhaka, 04 June: This year Bangladesh Air Force has also chalked out an elaborate tree plantation programme in line with the “National Tree Plantation Programme-2017” like earliar. Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar, BBP, ndc, acsc inaugurated the “BAF Tree Plantation Programme-2017” by planting a sapling at Air Headquarters premises on 04-06-2017.

Principal Staff Officers of Air Headquarters also participated in the programme by planting different saplings. Among others Directors and senior BAF officers of Air Headquarters were present during the inauguration programme. All BAF Bases and Units was also observing the similar programme. This year’s programme included planting of herbal, fruit bearing, shade giving and other varieties of saplings having timber value.

 

Assembly for Commemoration of International Day of UN Peacekeepers-2017 held

Dhaka, 29 May: The International Day of UN Peacekeepers was observed with due respect along with other countries of the world on 29-5-2017 in Bangladesh. The day long programme began with “Peacekeepers Assembly” arranged by Bangladesh Air Force Base Bashar, Dhaka and Air Force Base Zahurul Haque, Chittagong in the morning. Honourable State Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam inaugurated the event by releasing pigeons, balloons and festoons in Dhaka area and Major General Md Jahangir Kabir Talukder, SUP, afwc, psc, GOC 24 Inf Div, Chittagong inaugurated the said event in Chittagong area as the Chief Guest. On the occasion, the Chief Guest, representative of local UN organization and Air Officer Commanding of BAF Bases Zahurul Haque delivered speeches highlighting significance of Bangladesh Peacekeeping Forces in UN peacekeeping mission. The representatives from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Armed Forces, Bangladesh Police, UN agencies and Inter Service Organization, Dignitaries, Student of different school/colleges and media personnel took part in the events.

 

Certificate award ceremony of Bangladesh Air Force Junior Command and Staff Course held

Dhaka, 23 May: The certificate award ceremony of No. 104 Junior Command and Staff Course of Bangladesh Air Force was held at Bangladesh Air Force Command and Staff Training Institute (CSTI) of BAF Base Bashar on 23-05-2017. Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Operation & Training) Air Vice Marshal M Naim Hassan, BBP, OSP, afwc, psc attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest and distributed certificates and trophy among the graduating officers. 13 officers from Bangladesh Air Force, one officer from Bangladesh Army one officer each from Indian Air Force, Sri Lankan Air Force and Sudan Air Force attended the course. Squadron Leader S M Sakawat Anwer was awarded with the “Chief of Air Staff’s Trophy” for his best performance in the course. While addressing, Assistant Chief of Air Staff thanked the government of participating countries for sending student officers in this course and hoped that they would continue to send their officers in future as well. Earlier, in the welcome address, the Officer Commanding of the institute, Air Commodore Md Saharul Huda gave a brief resume on the course curriculum. Among others, Air Officer Commanding, BAF Base Bashar, Assistant Defence Attache of India and senior BAF Officers were present.

Air to Ground Firing “Exercise Eagle Eye 2017-2” of Bangladesh Air Force held

Dhaka, 15 May: Air to Ground Live Firing Exercise “Exercise Eagle Eye 2017-2” of Bangladesh Air Force at Haludia firing range (Bandarban) under Bangladesh Military Training Area (VGD-28) was started 02-05-2017 and it was concluded on 15-05-2017. A good number of BAF fighter aircraft, transport aircraft and Mi series helicopter participated in this exercise. Air to ground firing, different air combat maneuvers and tactics were practiced in this exercise. The main objective of the exercise was to assess and evaluate operational capability of BAF and identify weaknesses to develop better air defence system. A good number of fighter and airmen participated in the said exercise.

 

BAF Air Defence Exercise “MINIEX 2017-1” held

Dhaka, 24 May: Air Defence Exercise “MINIEX 2017-1” of Bangladesh Air Force held at all BAF Bases on 24-5-2017. The aim of this exercise is to test present Air Defence capability around Dhaka area and capability of Bangladesh Air Force Radar and Surface to Air Missile (SAM) system. Different types of BAF fighter aircraft, Transport aircraft and Helicopter including BAF officers and Airmen of different ranks actively took part in the exercise. It is expected that manpower and weapons of BAF will be useful to enhance Air Defence operational capability through this exercise.

Certificate Award Ceremony of Basic Jet, Helicopter, Transport and fighter aircraft conversion course held in BAF

Jessore, 19 April: The certificate award ceremony of No 03 Basic Jet & Fighter Conversion Course, No 02 Basic Jet Conversion Course and Basic Helicopter Conversion Course and Basic Transport Aircraft Conversion Course of Bangladesh Air Force Academy took place at the academy auditorium of BAF Base Bir Sreshto Matiur Rahman, Jessore on 19-04-2017. Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar, BBP, ndc, acsc graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest and awarded certificates amongst the graduating pilots. Addressing to the graduating pilots, the Chief of Air Staff said that the skill and professionalism that they have gained through the training in this course will act as the foundation stone of their future career in operational squadrons. Chief of Air Staff expressed his satisfaction with the course curriculum and course result. A total of six student pilots on L-39ZA aircraft, eight student pilots on newly inducted K-8W aircraft, six student pilots on newly inducted L-410 aircraft and 17student pilots on BELL-206 helicopter completed their course from BAF Academy. Mentionable that amongst graduating pilots, one student pilot from Bangladesh Naval Aviation and three pilots from Bangladesh Army Aviation also received certificate for successful completion of Basic Helicopter Conversion Course. Senior Officials from Air Headquarters, BAF Base Bir Sreshto Matiur Rahman, Senior Officials from Bangladesh Army & Bangladesh Navy from Jessore & Khulna areas including civil Officials were present during the certificate award ceremony.

 

Air to Air Firing of Bangladesh Air Force concluded

Chittagong, 11 April: Air to Air live firing exercise by different combat aircraft of Bangladesh Air Force has been concluded at Kutubdia firing range Chittagong on 11-04-2017. The exercise was started on 27 March 2017. Air to air firing, different air combat maneuvers and tactics were practiced during this sixteen days long exercise. The pilots and personnel of different ranks of Bangladesh Air Force actively participated in the exercise.

 

Indian Army Chief calls on Bangladesh Air Chief

Dhaka, 02 April: Chief of Army Staff, Indian Army, General Bipin Rawat, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, ADC called on Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar, BBP, ndc, acsc at Air Headquarters on 02-04-2017. During call on, they exchanged greetings and discussed on bi-lateral issues. Mentionable that 06 member’s delegation team led by Chief of Army Staff, Indian Army arrived in Bangladesh on 31 March 2017 on a 03 days official visit. It is expected that the visit will play an important role for strengthening the existing friendly relationship between Armed Forces of the two countries.

 

Bangladesh Air Force MODC recruits’ passing out parade held

Dhaka, 28 March: The passing out parade of MODC recruits entry No-43 of Bangladesh Air Force was held at BAF Care and Maintenance Unit, Lalmonirhat on 28-03-2017. Air Officer Commandig of Bangladesh Air Force Base Bir Sreshto Matiur Rahman Air Commodore Sheikh Abdul Hannan, BUP, nswc, fawc, psc reviewed the spectacular parade and took salute at the impressive march past as Chief Guest. Recruit (MODC) Md Hasibul Islam was adjudged the best recruit among the passed out MODC recruits and awarded with the ‘Best Recruit Trophy’. Among others senior BAF officers, airmen and guardians of the recruits were present on the occasion.

 

US-Bangladesh Aviation Medicine SMEE-2017 held

Dhaka, 20 March:The Pacific Air Force, Command Surgeon’s Office and Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) Aviation Medicine Institution combinedly arranged 04 days long Aviation Medicine Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE)-2017 which was concluded at Flying Wing Headquaters, BAF Base Bangabandhu, Kurmitola, Dhaka on 20-04-2017. Air Officer Commanding of BAF Base Bangabandhu Air Commodore Muhammad Mafidur Rahman, BUP, ndu, afwc, psc graced the ceremony as Chief Guest and distributed certificate among the participants. The program SMEE will explore how to apply aviation medicine on patient movement to better enhance aircrew safety and patient care during mass casualty. It is also intended to explore opportunities and share best practices to develop interoperability between aviation medical personnel when operating in harsh environments and unfamiliar culture during humanitarian assistance (HA) and disaster response in peacekeeping operations and natural disasters.

 

Bangladesh Air Force Command Safety Seminar held

Dhaka, 16 March: The 40th Annual Command Safety Seminar of Bangladesh Air Force was held at the BAF Falcon Hall, Dhaka on 16-3-2017.

Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar, BBP, ndc, acsc attended the seminar as Chief Guest and delivered his speech. He also distributed Flight Safety trophies for maintaining best safety record. Highlighting the importance of Flight Safety the Chief Guest added in his speech that flight safety is an evolving process and a manifestation of attachments and commitment of BAF towards Flight Safety. Thus BAF is developing innovative concepts, methodologies and mechanisms to prevent aircraft accidents. While undergoing rapid modernization, Bangladesh Air Force has been constantly tackling and adapting to multi-faceted issues relating to flight safety, maintenance safety, risk management and technological advancement. He applauded the noble objective of the seminar for creating opportunity to share experiences for BAF professionals to strengthen the attachment and assistance in promoting flight safety. Bangladesh Air Force Base Bashar was awarded with ‘Inter-Base Flight Safety Trophy’ and 11 Squadron, BAF was awarded with ‘Inter-Squadron Khademul Bashar Flight Safety Trophy’ for special achievement in the year 2016. BAF officers of Air HQ and all BAF Bases were present on the occasion.

Dhaka, 15 March: The certificate award ceremony of No. 58 Flight Safety Officers’ Course of Bangladesh Air Force was held at Flight Safety Institute (FSI) of Bangladesh Air Force Base Bashar on 15-03-2017. Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Admin) Air Vice Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat, BBP, OSP, ndu, psc attended the ceremony as Chief Guest and distributed certificates among the trainee officers. Squadron Leader Kashif Saeed of Pakista Air Force received the “Chief of Air Staff’s Trophy” for his best performance in the course.

The Chief Guest congratulated the trainee officers for successful completion of training and thanked Officer Commanding of Flight Safety Institute, Instructors and all concerned to the training for their effort to complete the course successfully. Earlier, in the welcome address, Officer Commanding of the institute Group Captain Haider Abdullah, ndc, fawc, psc gave a brief resume on the course curriculum. A total of 13 trainee officers- 08 from Bangladesh Air Force and each from Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy, Indian Air Force, Pakistan Air Force and Sri Lankan Air Force attended the course. Among others, senior BAF officers of Air Headquarters and Base were present on the occasion.

 

Bangladesh Air Force Annual Winter Exercise “Wintex-2017” Concluded

Dhaka, 08 March: Annual Winter Exercise “WINTEX-2017” of Bangladesh Air Force will be concluded on 08-3-2017.

The main objective of the exercise is to assess and evaluate the operational capability of Bangladesh Air Force to safeguard her own air space. The exercise also will help to identify the limitation and draw appropriate lessons for improvement in future. Mentionable that participation of all manpower and material of BAF in the exercise will be more effective in strenghening air defence capability of Bangladesh. The exercise was completed through three steps- Logistic exercise (LOGEX), Communication exercise (COMEX) & Live exercise (LIVEX). As a part of the exercise, the pilots of BAF fighter aircraft, transport aircraft and helicopters practised different air combat maneuvers and tactics including attak and interception by the fighter aircraft, surveillance from the air to the enemy attacking area, protecting Air Bases, providing logistic support, troops rotation, transporting weapons, special operation and search & rescue mission. Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar, BBP, ndc, acsc visited various BAF installations including BAF Base Bangabandhu, BAF Base Zahur, BAF Base Bashar and FOB Barisal to witness different activities of WINTEX-2017.

Mentionable that the exercise was conducted from Barisal, Shamshernagar and all Bangladesh including all Air Force Bases, Stations and Units from 04 March 2017. All types of BAF fighter aircraft, transport aircraft, helicopters, radar squadrons, Missile unit including all BAF personnel took part in the exercise. To make the exercise more effective & realistic and to co-ordinate with other forces Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy, Civil Defence and BNCC (Air Wing) participated in the exercise in limited scale.

 

Bangladesh Air Force Annual Winter Exercise “Wintex-2017” begins

Dhaka, 04 March: A six-day long Annual Winter Exercise “WINTEX-2017” of Bangladesh Air Force was began at all BAF Bases and Units on 04-3-2017.

The main objective of the exercise is to assess and evaluate the operational capability of Bangladesh Air Force to safeguard her own air space. It is also to identify the weakness and draw appropriate lessons for improvement. All types of BAF fighter aircraft, transport aircraft, helicopters, radar squadrons, Surface to Air Missile (SAM) unit including all BAF personnel are taking part in the exercise. As a part of the exercise, the pilots of BAF fighter aircraft, transport aircraft and helicopters will practise different air combat maneuvers and tactics including interception by the fighter aircraft. Mentionable that participation of all manpower and material of BAF in the exercise will be more effective in strenghening air defence capability of Bangladesh. To make the exercise realistic, components of Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy, Civil Defence and BNCC (Air Wing) was participated in the exercise in limited scale.

 

Bangladesh Air Force Inter-Base Volleyball competition concluded

Dhaka, 02 March: Inter-Base Volleyball Competition-2017 of Bangladesh Air Force concluded at Bangladesh Air Force Base Paharkanchanpur, Tangail on 02-3-2015. Seven teams of Bangladesh Air Force took part in the competition. Of the seven participating teams, Bangladesh Air Force Base Birsreshto Matiur Rahman team became champion while Bangladesh Air Force Base Zahurul Haque team became runner-up. AC-1 Md Suja Miah of Base Zahurul Haque team was adjudged as the best player. Air Officer Commanding of local Base Air Commodore Md Zahidur Rahman, GUP, nswc, psc witnessed the final match and distributed prizes among the winners as the chief guest. Among others Senior BAF Officers, Airmen and other members of the Base were present on the occasion.
