International Flight Safety Seminar-2013 (IFFS-13) was held on 25 and 26 November 2013 in the Falcon Hall, Dhaka jointly organized by Bangladesh Air Force(BAF) and Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB). Chief of Air Staff, BAF, Chairman CAAB, Principal Staff Officers of Air Headquarters’, Air Officer Commanding of different Bases, Directors of Air Headquarters and participants from different civil and military organization including different airliners of Bangladesh were present in the seminar. In addition to BAF and CAAB personnel, this time the seminar received an enthusiastic respond of 31 (thirty one)participants from 13 (thirteen) friendly countries and 02 participants from regional civil aviation office. The countries were:

The seminar was inaugurated by Air Marshal Muhammad Enamul Bari, ndu, psc Chief of Air Staff, BAF on 25 November 2013. On the other hand, Air Vice Marshal A K Khandker, Bir Uttom, psa (Retd), MP, Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Planning graced the occasion as the chief guest during the closing ceremony on 26 November 2013.

The theme of the IFSS-13 was “Standardization Improves Flight Safety”. The seminar provided a platform for mutual interaction under the umbrella of Flight Safety. Keeping the theme in mind diverse topics were prepared and presented by different participants both from home and aboard. These presentations answered some of our overwhelming queries and provided a stimulant to all the participants towards expanding the cause of Aviation Safety. It is expected that such interaction and similar endeavors in future would foster better cooperation and understanding among our friendly Air Forces and aviation related organizations which would be beneficial for improving International Aviation Safety.

The chief guest for the opening ceremony, Air Marshal Muhammad Enamul Bari, ndu, psc highlighted in his inaugural speech that this seminar would enable all of us to assume an effective role to the benefit of thousands of flights in our own domain to the safety of hundreds of aviators, millions of passengers and their management every day. Seminar of this kind would also provide us a common platform, a common language, a common purpose to share on any flight safety matters in future.

Moreover, he emphasized that Flight safety, be it in civil or military, revolves around the preservation of precious resources, both men and machines, while achieving the organizational objectives. The objectives in the civil aviation sector are driven by the need for efficient and safe transportation of passengers and to satisfy business needs. In the military aviation, the objective is to train realistically and conserve national air power capability thereby preserving the war fighting potential of the nation. In his speech he also highlighted that, in such a challenging and demanding environment, flight safety remains an effective “force multiplier” for any organization.

In the closing ceremony, the Chief Guest, Hon’ble Minister, Air Vice Marshal A K Khandker, Bir Uttom, psa (retd), MP, expressed deep satisfaction for arranging such an international seminar. He thanked both BAF and CAAB for being the host of this knowledge enriching event. He urged upon all to practice safety as a part of culture. In the end, the Hon’ble Chief Guest handed over the certificates to the participants and declared the seminar adjourned.

The two days long seminar was divided in four different sessions. A total of 13 (thirteen) papers were presented in the seminar. Out of thirteen, 04 (four) papers from BAF, 04 (four) from CAAB and rest 05 (five) papers from friendly countries which were as follows:

After each presentation there was a healthy interaction session where audience clarified their queries and gave valuable opinion or suggestions as well. At the end of first day, a speculated “Cultural Evening” was arranged highlighting the rich local Bengali Culture at BAF Shaheen Hall on 25 November 2013.
