Air Marshal Muhammad Enamul Bari, ndu, psc

     Born in a noble Muslim family of Dhaka in 1960, Air Marshal Muhammad Enamul Bari joined Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) on 19 September 1978 as a flight cadet and was commissioned in General Duties (Pilot) Branch on 01 February 1981. After commissioning, he joined the operational fighter squadron of BAF and served in almost all the fighter squadrons of BAF in various appointments. Progressing through his career, he has flown different types of aircraft including FUJI-200, AA-5A, PT-6, T-37B, FOUGA, FT-5, FT-6, F-6 and A-5IIIA aircraft. He is also a Qualified Flying Instructor and carried out extensive instructional flying in various fixed wing trainers and fighter aircraft. As an acclaimed fighter pilot of BAF, the Air Marshal has logged more than 2000 flying hours to his credit.

     Air Marshal Enam is well reputed in BAF for his altruism, simplicity and honesty both as a person and as a commander. His distinct service is marked with a fine mix of command, instructional and staff appointments. Apart from commanding the Trendsetters (25 Squadron, BAF), he also commanded the Avengers (21 Squadron) -- the only deep strike attack squadron of BAF. Having performed his stints at the wing and squadron level, he subsequently commanded two BAF bases at Chittagong and Jessore. The Air Marshal also served as a Directing Staff in Defence Services Command and Staff College, Mirpur and the Deputy Commandant of Bangladesh Air Force Academy. His significant staff assignments include Director of Air Operations and Director of Air Training at Air Headquarters and Director of Training at the Armed Forces Division. The Air Marshal has the distinct honour of serving in two Principal Staff Officer positions at the Air Headquarters level as the Assistant Chief of Air Staffs, spanning over a period of almost five years. He served for a two year spell as the Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Operations and Training) followed by Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Administration) since 2009, before taking over as the Chief of Air Staff.

     Air Marshal Enam has attended several professional courses, training and seminars at home and abroad. He attended Flying Instructor Course in UK in 1983 and Joint Air War Course in India in 1989. He is a graduate of Defence Services Command and Staff College and a fellow of National Defence College, Mirpur, Bangladesh. Besides, he graduated from Command and Staff College, Indonesia in 1995 and Air Force Command College, China in 2003. In 2006, he graduated from National Defence University, USA, winning the coveted 'Major General Theodore Antonelli Award' for Industry Study Excellence.

     The Air Marshal is a widely travelled person. He takes keen interest in games and sports. Pursuit of knowledge through reading and passing time with his grandchild are his passions. He is happily married to Mrs. Mary Enam and blessed with one son and two daughters.
