36th Command Safety Conference of Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) was held on 12 March 2013 in ‘Falcon Hall’ Dhaka, which was organized by Directorate of Flight Safety, BAF. Command Safety Conference is held once in a year. Over the period of time, safety conferences have played instrumental role for the establishment of a safety culture in BAF. In the recent years, with the booming prospect of aviation activities both by military and civil aviation sector within the air space of Bangladesh, the importance of Command Safety Conference is increasingly noticeable. 36th Command Safety Conference highlighted BAF’s safety performance by reviewing flying hours, accidents and incidents for the year 2012. It also featured sharing of knowledge, safety ideas and discussion by representatives from sister services, civil aviation organizations and civil airlines.

Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Muhammad Enamul Bari, ndu, psc graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Principal Staff Officers, Air Officer Commanding of different bases, Directors of Air Headquarters, Officers and Airmen from different bases/units attended the conference. The participants and attendees from sister services and civil organizations included representatives from:

The conference was divided into two sessions. Upon arrival of the Chief Guest, the first session started with recitation from the holy Quran followed by a presentation on BAF Flight Safety Issues by The Director of Flight Safety (DFS). In this presentation, DFS reviewed BAF’s flight safety performance for the year 2012 through statistical representation and analysis of different occurrences. The first session also included review of the minutes of the last conference by DFS followed by discussion on agenda items and open discussion. After the first session there was a tea break for all. Right after the tea break, the second session of the conference started with the opening address by Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Operations and Training). Then, DFS presented on BAF/National/Global flight safety issues. During this presentation, he reviewed BAF’s safety trend and performance over the last 30 (Thirty) years. He also provided a global overview of the accidents/incidents of civil airlines for the year of 2012 with statistical analysis of last 10 years. He highlighted on increased non-scheduled flights in Bangladesh, as well as, the flying-hours achievement, different occurrences with critical analysis to raise safety awareness for achieving even better safety performance in coming years. His review followed speeches by Air Officers Commanding different BAF bases. The Air Officers Commanding gave out the activities pertinent to the flight safety and various achievements of their bases for the year under review.

It is to be mentioned that the briefing and speeches of guest speakers from Biman Bangladesh Airlines and Square Air Limited also featured the conference.

Chief of Air Staff (COAS) distributed Flight Safety Trophy for the best safety performance at base level and squadron level followed by his closing address. BAF Base Kurmitola (Now named as Bangabandhu) received the ‘Inter Base Flight Safety Trophy’ and L-39 Sqn, BAF was awarded with Inter Squadron Khademul Bashar Flight Safety Trophy for best safety performance for the year 2012. During the closing address, Chief of Air Staff (COAS) stressed on maintaining the safety standards in the face of ever increasing involvement of BAF in operational and training flight.
